Children 8+

Support for Older Children & Pre-Teens

The transition from early childhood into those "middle years" is a huge leap. Around ages 8 and 9, kids start to see the world differently. They are developing deeper friendships, facing more complex school pressures, and beginning to navigate their own big emotions with more awareness.

The Shift to Independence

I focus on working with older children and pre-teens (roughly ages 8 and up) because this is such a pivotal time for building a foundation of mental wellness. At this age, kids are often stuck between wanting to be "big" and still needing the safety of home. They might be struggling with anxiety about school, friendship "drama," or feeling like they don't quite fit in.

Validating Their World

Children in this age group are incredibly perceptive. They know when things are tense at home or when they are being "talked at" rather than talked with. My approach is to treat them with the respect they deserve while keeping things light and approachable. We work on identifying feelings, building social confidence, and finding healthy ways to handle the frustrations that come with growing up.

Partnering with Parents

While the work in the room is often between your child and me, I know that you are the most important person in their life. I work to bridge the gap, helping you and your child learn how to communicate better so that home feels like a place of connection rather than a place of conflict.

Finding Hope and Joy

Growing up is hard work! Whether your child is dealing with a specific challenge or just seems to have lost their "spark," there is a way back to joy.

Let’s talk about your child’s unique personality and how we can work together to help them thrive.
