Young Adults

The young adult years are full of so many choices. Career options, relationships, housing, money, sexuality, education... .cooking....each is its own mountain to climb.

For some young adults, they can feel so overwhelmed that they freeze, unable to act. They might look like they are making no attempts to improve, but usually, they are working extremely hard underneath their smile, just to survive. Fear and anxiety are often huge.

Sometimes a young adult doesn't know how to handle the transition from following parental and teacher instructions to being their own agent. Choosing for themselves can feel like they are doing something wrong. At times they can worry that it is the wrong choice if it can't be guaranteed success.

Relationships bring their own problems. Maybe it's a first romantic relationship and their significant other is threatening suicide.  Or, on the other hand, maybe they can't get a romantic relationship at all and wonder if they are lovable.

And, of course, when it comes to college and careers, there might be that looming fear of not measuring up and never figuring it all out. If they have survived trauma in the past, everything can feel impossible. Even friends might seem like enemies if they've been seriously betrayed or abused. Suicidal or self-harm feelings can be present too.

No matter what kinds of challenges a young adult faces, there is help. As humans, we are equipped with strengths to balance our weaknesses. Knowing what to focus on and what to let go of can make a huge difference! So let's start talking about what's going on for you and start finding hope for joy, friendship, individuality, focus, and calm.
